Melco to provide for site victim’s family

Melco Resorts & Entertainment CEO Lawrence Ho said the company will take care of the family of a worker who died at the construction site of its Morpheus hotel on Sunday.

The 32-year old woman fell to her death while working at the hotel, which is scheduled to open this spring.

“At present we are working very closely with our contractor to fully understand the situation. Our hearts go out to the family of the worker and the people affected,” Ho told reporters in Macau. “And of course we're working very closely with the relevant authorities to do a thorough investigation. So, at this point in time our number one concern is to work with authorities and the contractor and also to make sure that the family of the deceased is taken care of.”

The 39-storey building was designed by late architect Zaha Hadid and is expected to be a new flagship for the City of Dreams complex, which has been underperforming other properties in the group and Macau.

Construction at the property was temporarily suspended last July after a worker from mainland China died and another was seriously injured.
