MGM Resorts appears to be in the lead among international IR operators in terms of building its infrastructure within Japan.
Ed Bowers, representative officer and CEO of MGM Resorts Japan, revealed last month that the company now has eight permanent Japan-based staff at its new office in the Otemachi district of Tokyo and in its Osaka branch office. They first established their local presence in 2014.
MGM also went live with a fresh Japanese-language website in mid-September.
Mr. Bowers explains to Asia Gaming Brief: “To help provide education to the general public about the many benefits that IRs can bring to local communities, we recently went live with a completely new MGM Resorts Japan website… We hope that it becomes a useful resource for all those in Japan interested in getting a better understanding of our diverse and complex industry.”
Aside from MGM, Las Vegas Sands, Wynn Resorts, and Melco possess Japanese-language websites, but these companies have either not yet set down roots with a permanent Japan-based staff (Sands, Wynn), or else haven’t yet updated their websites to reflect the recent establishment of their Japan team (Melco).
In early August, Jason P. Hyland, former Charge d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Tokyo during the Obama administration, was appointed representative officer and president of MGM Resorts Japan.
