MGS a gateway to Macau and Asian market

Titled ‘Creativity and Innovation,’ this year’s edition of MGS Entertainment Show welcomed several new technology companies from around the world. From software solutions to digital marketing, exhibitors strived to impress.

Virtual betting solution company Golden Race brought live fight shows to the exhibition hall, trying to catch the attention of casino operators as they want to promote what they consider ‘a complementary element’ to the current market.

“It’s a brand new concept of gaming which is different from slots or casino games. We’re launching our new game, which is a real fighter, and then we do mostly pre-recorded events,” said Lorenzo Meroni, managing director of Asia Golden Race.

“We’ll try to discuss very soon with the government to see if there’s a chance to squeeze [this] into the law. We’d like to see if there could be a possibility. I think it could be very good for us,” he added. “It’s complementary to what you’re doing already, what the casinos are doing already. I think it’s about time that everybody opens up to new games in general - and maybe step out of the [sports betting] monopoly.”

The three-day event, in tandem with the Macao Entertainment Summit, ran from November 15 to 17 at Venetian Macao. The 2017 edition, marking the fifth anniversary of the trade show, is scheduled for the third week of November next year.

Digital marketing

Headquartered in Singapore with the exclusive distribution rights in Asia of the top notch European technology, 3D holographic filmmaking and interactive mixed reality creator, Real Vision Asia, sees their product as a great marketing tool for all sorts of industries.

With Macau being the first representative office in Asia, Real Vision presented in the Special Administrative Region for the first time, hoping the region will ride this trend of digital marketing, which is relatively immature compared to Western markets.

“We’re providing a good platform for all the industrial players, especially the casinos, the hotels, the properties, the retail markets, supporting their digital marketing platform,” said Samanna Loh of Real Vision Asia. “Whatever the product is, it’s able to be put into our 3D holographic display. We make it come alive in that sense.”

“This is a unique projection. We have an embedded projector, a screen, and holographic panels. It has to work this way,” she added. “It’s a new breakthrough because now the public doesn’t need to put on 3D goggles to actually view the 3D effect.”

Jay Chun, chairman of Macao Gaming Equipment Manufacturers Association - the main organizer of the MGS Entertainment Show - said that this year they’ve made an effort to rebrand the event from ‘Macao Gaming Show’ to ‘MGS Entertainment Show – Creativity and Innovation’ and hopes this trend can be continued into future years.

“I think for the current exhibitors we want to ask them to bring more new products. Because it’s a gaming equipment show; bringing more new products here will give them more business opportunities,” said Mr. Chun. “Also, this year, we’ve started what we call ‘Creativity and Innovation’. If all the vendors can bring new technology to the show, it will be better for manufacturers, casinos and gaming operators.”

Mr. Meroni of Gold Race reckoned that “Macau is the only place in Asia where you can put yourself out there. We’re just trying to advertise our games; basically to let people know, let the operators know.”

The organizer revealed that BPA - an American company that provides independent, third-party audits - had been appointed to audit this year’s edition. In addition, in 2017, the MGS Entertainment Show plans to apply to join UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, an association of trade show organizers, fairground owners, national and international associations of the exhibition industry, and its partners.
