MGTO considers adding leisure cruise routes

The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is considering the development of leisure cruise routes between the Macau Peninsula and Coloane to boost tourism and to better use the city’s water resources.

According to Macau Business Daily, deputy director of MGTO, Tse Heng Sai made the reply to a legislator’s written enquiry on what the MGTO was doing to promote the development of wager tourism related products in Macau.

Earlier this year, the MGTO announced the government intends to attract around 30 million visitors to Macau this year, and persuade more to stay overnight, said director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes.

As part of its tourism master plan, Fernandes said the MGTO aims to boost the tourism industry by expanding the waterfront area and increasing the number of budget hotels, and generating non-gaming revenues of MOP 112 billion (US$14 billion) by 2025.
