More than 250 people apply for Macau casino exclusion in 9 months

More than 250 people had asked to be excluded from Macau casinos in the first nine months of the year, almost as many as in all of last year, according to official data.

According to the city's casino regulator, 269 people had voluntarily asked to be barred from casinos up to the end of September compared with 280 people in 2014.

The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau says 245 people had come forward asking to be excluded from casinos, while a further 24 requests came from third parties, such as family members.

The data does not show how many Macau residents have joined the casino exclusion scheme.

The maximum exclusion period is two years but it can be extended. Those who fail to comply with the exclusion order risk up to one year in jail or a fine.
