Myanmar extends state of emergency for six months, casinos remain open

Myanmar’s government has decided to extend the state of emergency put in place in 2021 when the military seized power. The move forces a further delay in elections but has not caused the nation’s casinos to shutter, despite the ongoing turmoil.

The continuing state of emergency allows military forces to occupy all government functions, with possible elections to change the status quo only possible once the military deems that they have accomplished their goals, according to reports.
The nation is now under another six-month extension of military control, noting that authorities need time to prepare for the upcoming elections.
Myanmar operates at least three main casinos, in Myawaddy, ThataKhun and Tachileik.
The country borders numerous other nations where casino gambling is not allowed or is less prevalent, including China, Thailand and India.
