NagaCorp eyes Cambodia expansion

NagaCorp said it intends to explore expansion in Siem Reap and Sihanoukville, but suggests the properties won’t necessarily include gaming.

In its latest results announcement, the operator of Nagaworld in Phnom Penh, said it wants to be perceived “as a more comprehensive and quality integrated resort developer with an emphasis on non-gaming as a source of revenue.”

“The company anticipates that non-gaming and gaming IRs can co-exist with each other in a mutually beneficial manner. It is the intention of the Group to explore viable and profitable IR development in the Siem Reap and Sihanoukville areas.”

The Cambodian government has been making efforts to clean up Sihanoukville after an influx of Chinese investment, mostly targeting online gambling, created environmental devastation. Industry sources in the town say they are seeing a gradual improvement.

The government has also said it will not permit casinos in Siem Reap province, which is home to the Angkor Wat temple complex.
