Nagasaki aims for fast and fair IR consortium selection

The Nagasaki Prefectural Government, which claims to be in discussions with about twenty companies interested in forming or joining an IR consortium, is reportedly aiming to choose its IR consortium partners by the autumn of 2020, possibly quicker than any other local government in Japan.

The prefecture is also giving thought, therefore, to its own process of IR consortium selection to ensure fairness and transparency.

This is especially important because the possible investment levels are higher than most earlier predictions had assumed. A Hong Kong-based group, Oshidori International, has suggested a JPY400 billion (about $3.8 billion) investment that would include the construction of a monorail. Though more vague about the specifics, a Macau-based group led by Current Corporation, Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16, and Get Nice Holdings claims to have prepared JPY550 billion (about $5.2 billion) for investment in the Huis Ten Bosch site.

Some observers, however, doubt that the market size in Nagasaki will justify IR investments of this scale.
