Nagasaki forges links with the University of Macau

Sasebo Mayor Norio Tomonaga’s visit to the University of Macau at the end of last week highlighted the growing links between the two parties regarding the development of the IR industry in Japan.

The relationship is in some ways a natural one, as both Macau and Nagasaki are historically linked through their mutual Portuguese connection in earlier centuries. Indeed, Mayor Tomonaga’s second purpose in visiting Macau was to inspect World Heritage sites remaining from the Portuguese imperial age.

On July 21 and 22, the University of Macau’s Global Leadership Development Program conducted  an IR management course for about sixty students, including local Japanese businesspeople and government officials, as well as some students from Macau.

Nagasaki Governor Hodo Nakamura attended the opening of the event.

Another organizer of this event was the Kyushu Economic Forum, representing the fact that the prospective IR at Sasebo is envisioned as a driver for inbound tourism to all of Kyushu, not simply to Nagasaki Prefecture alone.
