Nepal casinos have been shut down after they failed to meet a deadline to pay due royalties and obtain new licenses, according to media reports. A total of 10 casinos operating in Nepal owe $11.26 million to the government and the ptending dues date back to fiscal year 2005-06. The Nepal Casino Rules, 2013, require that each casino pays $42,105 to the government every year as a royalty. Closure of the casinos has resulted in at least 10,000 job losses, the reports said.
