Nepal closes two casino properties for failure to pay royalty fees

The Nepal government has canceled the casino licenses at two hotels for failing to pay their royalty fees, according to local media reports.




The Yak & Yeti Hotel failed to pay Rs420 million, while the Dreamland Hotel failed to pay Rs3.8 million. The Yak & Yeti’s casino license has been canceled and the five-star classification of the hotel has been revoked. 




The Dreamland, which ran a mini-casino, has been shut down. 




The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation wrote to five casinos at the beginning of February giving them seven days to clear their debts.




The other properties were named as Oriental Hotels Limited (Radisson Hotel), Rock International Kathmandu and Central Media.




Nepal’s casinos resumed operations in September last year.
