Nepal gives casinos until April 4th to comply with new rules

The Nepalese government has given the country’s casinos an extension until April 4th to comply with rules that they obtain new operating licenses, according to local media. This is the fifth time the government has extended the deadline, which had expired on Friday March 21st. The country’s casino association wrote to the government asking for the extension, saying that casinos are willing to operate legally, but that new regulation that came into force in July last year was too strict. It asked the government to rethink five clauses, including reducing the royalty fee, which had been doubled. Other clauses causing concern include a stipulation that only four-star properties can operate electronic gaming; that casinos should not be within five km of an international border and that detailed client records be kept for at least six months.
