Nevada judge imposes sanctions on Sands China

A Nevada judge has imposed sanctions on Sands China Ltd. due to the company’s failure to present key documents in a lawsuit concerning the termination of its former president Steven Jacobs.

Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez filed a 40-page ruling on Friday, in which she ordered Sands China, a subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands, to ensure the documents be delivered.

The Macau casino operator will also have to pay $250,000 to cover the costs of a total of nine hearings in which Jacobs claims that his termination was improper.

Judge Gonzalez had previously stated that Sands China violated its former president’s rights by failing to present the necessary documents.

The judge also barred Sands China Ltd from calling any of its own witnesses.

“We are disappointed in the court’s decision and do not believe it is supported by the evidence,” Ron Reese, a spokesman for Las Vegas Sands Corp., was quoted as saying by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
