New gaming committee appointment positive: Leong

The Macao Gaming Committee should be able to further develop its role in the healthy development of the city’s gaming industry following the appointment of Macau’s Secretary of Security to the committee.

According to a note from the Government Information Bureau, Lionel Leong Vai Tac said Wong Sio Chak's appointment would have a positive impact on the committee's work.

At a time when the industry is undergoing a new phase of development, there is a greater need for the committee to receive input on security matters, Leong told local reporters on Saturday.

Established in July 2000, the Macau Gaming Committee was put together to develop the gaming industry in Macau.

Leong also stated the government remained in close contact with the city’s gaming promoters, discussing raising the capital requirements for companies interested in the junket sector.

The secretary also said there have been talks about the issue of paternity leave for men working in the private sector.
