New South Wales pubs fined for out-of-hours gambling

 
Five pubs and a club in New South Wales were fined A$38,500 ($35,400) for allowing machine gambling during their three-hour daily shutdown periods. State Hospitality Minister George Souris said the breaches were detected during audit of the venues' machines and confirmed by closed-circuit video recordings. Four of the six venues were in Sydney, one in Wollongong and one in Newcastle. 
The state Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority also rejected an application by the Sydney club Mounties to add 60 machines to its existing 561 due to worries about the impact on problem gambling and poor families. The club estimated the expansion would add A$7 million to its annual A$78 million in revenues and had promised to put A$3.3 million toward a program for disadvantaged youth.
