No change to Macau table cap policy, Tam says

There will be no change to a policy that caps the compound annual growth rate in live gaming tables in Macau at 3 percent until 2022, local media reported Secretary for Economy and Finance Francis Tam as saying.

“We did not set a fixed amount on how many gaming tables a project can get,” the Secretary noted. “The starting count of these 5,500 tables from all casino operators here and the [compounded growth rate at] three percent per annum meant that we’re seeing an addition of about 1,000 to 2,000 tables within these 10 years,” he was cited as saying.

His comments follow a statement to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange earlier this week by Macau Legend, which said regulators had approved an additional 35 tables for its properties.

It also comes as operators ahead of the opening of the first in a new wave of multi-billion dollar casinos in Macau, beginning next year, all requiring a significant number of tables.
