No early Sydney opening for Crown

Crown Ltd will not be allowed to open a planned Sydney gambling parlor targeting Asian VIP bettors until 2019 when Echo Entertainment Group's exclusive rights for the city expire, according to New South Wales Premier Barry O'Farrell. Comments earlier in the week by O'Farrell were interpreted to mean the state government would allow Crown to open its parlor earlier under a gaming license, which would bar poker machines, instead of a casino license. The state gambling regulator meanwhile is still weighing Crown's application to raise its 10 percent stake in Echo. James Packer, Crown's chairman, separately warned Australian politicians against xenophobic rhetoric that would interfere with doing business in China and Asia.
