NSW and VIC regulators consider outcome of Crown trial

Gambling regulators in NSW and Victoria are undecided whether they will take any action on Crown Resorts following the jailing of Crown employees in China for gambling offences, The Australian reports.

"At this stage, it is too early to speculate on what action, if any, may be considered in regard to any relevant issues for the NSW regulatory framework," a Liquor & Gaming NSW spokesman said.

The Victorian Commission for Gaming and Liquor Regulation said it is “currently considering the outcome of this matter.”

On Monday, nineteen staff from Crown Resorts staff pleaded guilty to gambling-related crimes in a trial held at Shanghai’s Baoshan district people’s court.

Sixteen of the 19 defendants were fined a total of CNY8.62 million (US$1.3 million), while 11 of those 16 were also sentenced to a period of incarceration between 9 and 10 months.
