NZ pokie spending continues to drop


Spending on pokies in New Zealand’s pubs and clubs continued to drop in the year ending June 2014, declining 2.4 percent, according to Department of Internal Affairs figures.

Expenditure declined to $806.2 million ($692 million) from $826.3 million. There were also fewer license holders, gambling venues and gaming machines compared with 12 months earlier. License holders fell from 351 to 329, gambling venues declined from 1356 to 1321 and the number of gaming machines decreased from 17,534 to 17,130.

However, in line with seasonal trends there was an increase between the first and second quarters, with spending rising from $192.8 million to $200.7 million.
