Occupancy rate up in September, rates continue fall

Average occupancy rate in Macau in September increased 5.6 percent year-on-year, according to the latest data from the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO).

Occupancy rate in September hit 86.6 percent, which is down from 92.6 percent in August.

5-star hotels saw the highest growth in occupancy in the month, increasing 6.5 percentage points year-on-year to 86 percent, however, 3-star hotels saw the highest overall occupancy rate in the month, at 89.6 percent.

The month also saw the continuation of a further year-on-year decrease in hotel room rates, observed over the last few months, coupled with increased supply of hotel rooms.

Hotel room prices were on average MOP1,212.5 ($151.7) per night in September, down 11.3 percent year-on-year.
