Osaka pachinko operators to give respite to the cops

The operators of the approximately 800 pachinko parlors in Osaka and Ehime prefectures have agreed to refrain from making any changes in the lineup of their pachinko and pachislot machines from late May until the end of June in order to reduce the burden of work on local police.

To make machine lineup changes, it is necessary for pachinko parlor operators to gain permission from the police and the prefectural public safety commissions.

During June, however, police in the Osaka region are mobilizing all of their resources for the hosting of the G20 Summit, and they have asked leaders of the pachinko industry to help them out by reducing their ordinary work load. Negotiations between the police and the All Japan Pachinko and Pachislot Cooperative Association led to the compromise.

Advertising new pachinko and pachislot machines is a major method for the parlors to retain public interest and to draw in customers, so going more than a month without conducting any such campaigns will be a considerable burden on the operators, many of which are already in difficult economic straits.
