Outbound tourists to flock to US, France, Australia

Chinese outbound tourism to countries other than Macau and Hong Kong is expected to continue its growth trajectory over the next few years, according to CLSA analysts.

The brokerage’s recent proprietary survey of more than 400 outbound travellers from China found that Chinese travellers looking for unique cultural experiences are most likely to head to South Korea, Japan, Thailand or the USA in the next three years.

While travel to Hong Kong and Macau is expected to average 3 percent growth, other locations will grow on average by 16 percent, said the analysts.

“Improved affordability, easing travel restrictions and increasing desire to travel remain the key drivers underpinning the stellar Chinese outbound tourism growth story.”

CLSA says it maintains its long-standing forecast of 200 million Chinese overseas trips by 2020.
