Package tour numbers bound in July

Visitors arriving to Macau via package tours saw an upwards leap in July, due in part to the summer holiday period.

The number of package tour visitors increased 22.8 percent year-on-year to 819,000 in July, clocking a month-to-month increase of 21.9 percent.

According to data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), package tour visitors from Mainland China (669,000), the Republic of Korea (38,000) and Taiwan (42,000) rose by 25.6, 24.8 and 4.8 percent respectively year-on-year.

Year-to-date, visitors arriving on package tours totalled 4.6 million, representing a rise of 12.4 percent year-on-year.

On Saturday, Macau lifted its suspension on tour groups.

According to preliminary figures reported by members of the travel trade, an approximate total of 410 Mainland tour groups travelled to Macau following the resumption.

Inspectors were assigned to patrol various ports of entry and major tourist attractions to examine the situation on the first day of tour group resumption.

It is understood to have run smoothly.
