The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor) has rejected businessman Roberto Ongpin’s latest amendment to donate his shares in online provider Philweb.
Last Friday, in a letter to Pagcor chairperson Andrea Domingo, Ongpin asked the gaming regulator to use his 49 percent stake in Philweb for the establishment of a nationwide network of drug rehabilitation centers.
"I am a firm believer in the President [Rodrigo Duterte]'s drive against the drug menace. And as he has pointed out, the elimination of drug lords and drug pushers will not succeed unless this is complemented by an effective drug rehabilitation program," Ongpin said.
However, Pagcor chief Andrea Domingo said she is keeping her position against signing another contract with Philweb.
“I will recommend to the board that we stick to our first decision,” Ms. Domingo said in a text message on Monday.
