PEZA online gaming ban won’t affect Pagcor licensees

While the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) last month made the decision to bar online gaming firms from leasing space in its accredited sites, an exception will be made for Pagcor licensees, according to a source close to the matter.

In late April, PEZA Director General Charito Plaza said the authority will bar all online gaming operators from leasing office space in its PEZA-accredited buildings following a meeting between its board of directors and the country’s BPO association.

Plaza said she would ask owners of all PEZA-accredited buildings not to allow online gaming firms to operate in their premises, especially those “disguising as BPO”.

At the time, it was inferred that operators including those licensed by Pagcor would be banned. However, a source speaking to AGB noted that an exception will be made for service providers, POGOs and gaming agents with Pagcor licenses.

A formal announcement is expected to be made shortly.
