Police raid illegal gambling dens


 

Police raided two alleged illegal gambling dens in the Geylang area, arresting a total of six men. Four were arrested in the first raid, with one believed to be the operator of the shop house gaming parlor and the others his patrons. Police seized 18 computers and S$620 ($496). The second raid involved two arrests, with one man alleged to be operating the parlor from his home and the second a patron. Police seized 21 computers and more than S$1,000 in that raid. Clients of illegal gambling dens can be sentenced to a fine of up to $4,000 and six months in jail. Some illegal gambling dens in the neighborhood are reported to operate 24 hours a day and be comparably furnished to high-end casinos.
