Ports inquiry clears Casino Carnival in drowning

An inquiry by the Captain of Ports in Panaji has cleared Casino Carnival officials of blame in the drowning death of Saidanush Reddy, a 20-year-old student who fell from the group's MV Boa Sorte casino boat into the Mandovi River, an unnamed senior official told the Times of India. Police are investigating whether Casino Carnival officials were negligent but the official told the newspaper the ship had and used appropriate safety equipment. The police say Reddy went into an area barred to passengers after an argument then slipped when staff told him to return to the passenger area.
