Problem gambling among International students

 
A survey of students in Victoria and Queensland by Anna Thomas and Susan Moore of Swinburne University found that 6.7 percent of international students have serious gambling addictions, nearly six times the rate for the general population.  International students in the survey gamble less than local students, but are more prone to problem gambling. The researchers suggested that the restricted environments from which many international students come makes them overly excited about the opportunity to gamble legally and that they are naive about the odds of winning.
