Problem gambling measures to hit VIC slot venues

Pokie clubs in Victoria will soon be hit with a number of changes aimed at reducing harm from problem gambling.

According to a report from Herald Sun, ATMs in venues will see a new A$500 (US$400) limit on EFTPOS withdrawals, while a ban on cashing cheques and purchasing cashless gambling tickets on credit cards will also be imposed.

Minister for Gaming and Liquor Regulation Marlene Kairouz said the government was taking “strong action to reduce the harm from gambling on our community”.

“We are capping pokies numbers across the state, limiting daily cash withdrawals in venues and restricting betting advertising in our public spaces,” Ms Kairouz said.

“This is about protecting people and helping those who choose to gamble stick to their limits.”
