Prosecutors ask court to revoke bail for lawmaker Akimoto

Tokyo prosecutors have asked the court to revoke the earlier bail terms for former Senior Vice-Minister of the Cabinet Office Tsukasa Akimoto in light of the witness tampering charges.

If the court grants the prosecution's request, Akimoto will be made to forfeit his JPY30 million (US$290,000) bail deposit.

Akimoto has consistently maintained his complete innocence in the face of a growing list of indictments.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday the Tokyo court did grant bail to Daisuke Matsuura, one of the men charged by prosecutors with participating in Akimoto’s alleged witness tampering scheme. His bail deposit was in the amount of JPY100 million.
