Proving income cumbersome for some locals

While Vietnamese citizens will be able to gamble at certain domestic casinos come mid-March, proving they meet the minimum income requirement will be difficult for some, warns the deputy chair of a Vietnamese investor association.

The new gaming decree, which was announced in January, allows for Vietnamese citizens over the age of 21 with a monthly income of more than VND 10 million (US$450) to enter select casinos in the country.

In a report from VietnamNet Bridge, Nguyen Hoang Hai, deputy chair of the Vietnam Association of Financial Investors (VAFI) says that some players may find it difficult to prove their income.

“There would be no problem for employees to prove their income, but it would be difficult for businessmen and freelancers to do this,” said Hai.

The deputy chairman also added that it was unclear what documents people would have to show.

Meanwhile, the daily gambling limit, which is set at VND1 million (US$45) per day has been viewed by some locals as ‘too low’.

“VND 25 million a month won’t be able to satisfy them. They would rather go gambling abroad than go to domestic casinos,” said the owner of a privately run business in Hanoi, quoted by the news outlet.
