A public opinion poll in Nagasaki has found that the plurality of the general public supports hosting an IR in the local area.
The survey, conducted by local newspaper Nagasaki Shimbun, found that in a sample of five hundred prefectural residents, 46.6 percent were in favor of transforming the Huis Ten Bosch theme park into an IR, with 38.2 percent opposed.
Up until this point, every poll of Japanese opinion has found strong opposition to IRs—often at a 2-to-1 or even 3-to-1 level. But it appears that Nagasaki may be different.
The Nagasaki Shimbun poll suggested that support for the IR was pronounced in the northern part of the prefecture (near Huis Ten Bosch) and among the young.
It can be surmised that in a prefecture in which good employment opportunities for young people are notably few, the economic development prospects of the IR are welcomed.
