Racing Victoria proposes board shake-up

Any persons deriving income from wagering or racing will be banned from holding a position on the Racing Victoria board under new proposed rules for the industry, Sydney Morning Herald reports.

According to a leaked summary of a meeting between Racing Minister Martin Pakula's office and Racing Victoria Ltd., all board members will be removed and a new chief executive will be appointed in the overhaul. The proposed reforms will also see Racing Victoria’s chairman and deputy chairman selected by the Minister.

It is understood that the creation of a new board was largely caused by the results of an inquiry by integrity commissioner Sal Perna into the leaking of sensitive information to to trainer Peter Moody by RVL board member David Moodie.

Moodie voluntarily stepped down following the release of the findings in December last year.
