Receipts from Macau’s hotel sector amount to MOP28 billion in 2014


Receipts from Macau’s hotel sector amounted to MOP27.87 billion ($3.5 billion) in 2014, up by 10.2 percent year-on-year, according to  the Statistics and Census Service.

Analysed by types of receipts, room sales increased by 14.3 percent year-on-year to MOP13.65 billion, accounting for 49 percent of the total; receipts from food and beverages increased by 1.1 percent to MOP5.65 billion. 

Receipts from rental space rose by 18.6 percent to MOP5.58 billion, with those for MICE events  soaring by 111.1 percent to MOP339 million.

A total of 99 hotels and guesthouses were operating in 2014, a decrease of 1 year-on-year, comprising 66 hotels and 33 guesthouses. 

Receipts at five-star hotels came to MOP23.06 billion, while receipts from four-star hotels amounted to MOP2.73 billion.

Hotel sector expenditure increased by 7.9 percent in the year to MOP23.07 billion, with operating expenses and employee compensation increasing by 3.1 percent and 7.2 percent, respectively.

In a separate media release the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam said the government will pay close attention to public opinion in the revitalisation plan for the former Estoril Hotel.

Tam said the aim of revitalising the cultural heritage site is to create more recreational and leisure facilities.
