Residents of NSW’s Illawarra region push $1.87 billion a year into pokies


Residents in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, just south of Sydney, are spending about $2 billion ($1.87 billion) a year on poker machines, according to local media. The annual estimate is based on an Illawarra-wide quarterly figure of $571.4 million. The figure works out at about $1955.73 a quarter spent by the 292,190 people living in Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama councils.
