Royal Thai Police commissioner to back casinos

Royal Thai Police commissioner Pol Gen Somyot Phumhnmuang said he will brave the inevitable backlash from NGOs and back the call by national reform assemblymen to open casinos in the country, Thai PBS reported.

Pol Gen Somyot said during a press conference that he was ready to become the first national police chief to propose free casinos before he retires at the end of September this year, and that he would personally launch a website to hear public opinions on free casino operations, Thai PBS said.

Somyot’s comments follow those of the country’s National Reform Council chairman who dismissed the controversial proposal by some NRC members to legalize casinos in Pattaya.

Somyot said he would propose a plan that would restrict locals from entering and that would carefully screen customers before entry.
