Royale Star seeing little action in North Korea

 

The Royale Star, a casino cruise ship, has made only three trips on its new route between the port of Rajin, near North Korea's border with Russia and China, and Mount Kumgang, close to South Korea, according to Singapore's Sunday Times. The ship, owned by Singapore's Danny Tay, formerly operated casino cruises into international waters from Singapore before shifting to North Korea in February. “Customers seem happier with the Royale Star than with the ship before, so our government is pleased with its crew and Singaporean management," a North Korean official told the newspaper. 

Some of the originally scheduled seven cruises that were to take place through October were cancelled and the first cruise in May was restricted to Chinese and North Korean passengers rather than other foreigners as originally billed.
