Russia to amend e-betting tax whilst MP calls for ban

The Russian government has introduced a federal bill which will include amendments of the Tax Code that relate to online bets and wins, according to The State Duma website.

According to the document, the new tax rate for an online bet processing centre (TSUPIS) of a tote or a betting office will be up to RUB 3 million (US$45,000).

In cases when the tax rates are not determined by the laws of a particular constituent state, a bookmaker will have to pay a tax of RUB 2.5 million per TSUPIS, the document adds.

The bill also exempts taxes for wins below RUB 4,000, and requests bookmakers to act as tax agents for wins above RUB 15,000 and is expected to be in force on Jan. 1, 2017.

In related news, despite the observed improvements of online betting regulations, there are some that have called for a blanket ban on online bettings.

According to Russian website Russkaya Planeta (Russian planet), Russian MP Ilya Kostunov of the ruling United Russia party is reportedly preparing a bill that will ban online betting in the country. Kostunov says the bill would protect minors from accessing online bookmakers.
