Russian government calls for purge of illegal online gambling operators

Russia’s communications watchdog Roskomnadzor has directed banking and payment processors to purge unauthorized online gambling operators from their client lists.

According to Russian news outlet Izvestia, Roskomnadzor sent letters to leading Russian bank Sberbank and payment processors including Skrill and Yandex, ordering them to review client records to ensure compliance with Russian gambling laws.

Last month, the communications watchdog intensified its efforts in blocking illegal gaming-related websites in the country, targeting the likes of online poker rooms, online casinos, bookmaking websites, as well as Russian news and analytical web portals.
