Saipan casino commission delays

Procedural disputes are holding up the appointment of three nominees to the Commonwealth Casino Commission in Saipan.

A session of the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation was scheduled to confirm the appointments, but arguments broke out over whether previously agreed public hearings should be held into the nominees. There were also questions raised about whether two of the proposed members were double dipping.

Senate Floor Leader Pete P. Reyes said the actions of a few members were “ ridiculous delaying tactics” according to a local report. His motion to invite the nominees to a further session of the assembly on Monday was passed.
