Saipan’s legislature is now considering a plan from Macau’s Alter City Group to lease 152 hectares of public land for a 25 year period as part of its plan to build a casino on Tinian in the Northern Marianas.
Alter City has not yet applied for a casino license but it plans 1,000 hotel rooms, water parks, a golf course, a casino and other amenities to be built in three phases over 12 years. The company’s total investment is now reported to $300 million
Leasing more than five hectares of land requires the approval of the legislature in Saipan, and a joint committee from the Senate and House of Representatives is meeting on Tinian tonight for a public hearing on Alter City’s proposal.
The Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino is already operating in Tinian, but according to reports in local media, officials in Tianian are supporting Alter City’s lease plan.
