Sands China may be forced to reveal Macau probe details

A secret investigation by Sands China of Macau government officials may be revealed if a Nevada court allows the documents to be used in a case of wrongful dismissal, according to a Bloomberg/Businessweek report.

Steven Jacobs has been fighting a wrongful termination lawsuit since being fired as head of Sands China in 2010, the report said. He alleges chairman Sheldon Adelson demanded he collect the information to exert leverage over Macau officials.

Sands argues that Jacobs “stole” the documents when he was fired, and that they’re legally off-limits for use in the lawsuit. They also contain highly secret, proprietary and sensitive business and strategic information, Sands said in a November court filing.

The case was scheduled to be heard in a Nevada court Tuesday. Adelson denies commissioning the report, accusing Jacobs of ordering the probe for his own purposes, the report said.

The Macau officials probed by the Hong Kong consultant, Steve Vickers of International Risk Ltd., aren’t identified in public court records.
