Sands launches leadership program in Macau

Sands China on Tuesday announced the launch of its Strategic Leadership Programme for Integrated Resorts – with a kick-off ceremony at Sands Cotai Central.

Aimed at developing leaders in integrated resort management, the leadership programme will send a group of local management team members around the world to receive leadership development from three prestigious universities on three continents over the course of five months, taking advantage of the unique areas of industry expertise of each educational institution – the Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics in Lisbon, Portugal; Cornell School of Hotel Administration in Ithaca, New York, USA; and the University of St. Joseph in Macau.

The program is available to 25 future leaders, and will include a practical component of the coursework for which participants will be asked to analyze a specific, real-world business challenge and develop a set of recommendations to deal with it, culminating with a presentation of their ideas to Sands China senior executives.

The Sands China International Strategic Leadership Programme for Integrated Resorts is the latest initiative of the Sands China Academy, specially designed in conjunction with Católica Lisbon, Cornell University and the University of St. Joseph in order to develop local leaders in integrated resort management.

“Sands China remains committed to developing Macau’s local talent, and we will continue working alongside the Macau SAR government and with educational institutions to help team members grow and thrive both personally and professionally,” said Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd. “We firmly believe that what’s good for their futures is good for the future of Macau.”

These and other efforts by Sands China, including the newly launched International Strategic Leadership Programme for Integrated Resorts, continue to contribute to non-gaming diversification in Macau and the city’s development into a world centre of tourism and leisure, said the operator.
