The Southeast Asia internet economy is set to reach over $240 billion by 2025, driven by a highly engaged internet user base, according to a report from Google and Temasek.
The estimation represents a nearly a four-fold increase from 2018, with the internet economy expected to reach $72 billion across online travel, e-commerce, online media and ride hauling.
The strongest country growth has been seen in Vietnam, which is expected to see its internet economy grow to $9 billion in 2018, driven by e-commerce and online media.
This places Vietnam’s internet economy as the most developed relative to the size of GDP, at 4 percent.
The report also estimates there are more than 350 million internet users across Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam as of June 2018 – 90 million more than in 2015.
