Singapore converts parts of Kranji racecourse to recovery facilities

The Singapore Turf Club said it’s temporarily converting selected areas of the Singapore Racecourse at Kranji into facilities for recovering foreign workers.

Specifically, the Multi-Storey Carpark and Car Park B at the racecourse and the sheltered arena at Singapore Turf Club Riding Centre will be deployed.

The facilities will enable those who remain well and clinically stable to recover from COVID-19, the club said in a statement.  

The construction and building works of the Community Recovery Facilities (CRFs) at the two areas are scheduled to be completed by end May 2020. 

Racing has been temporarily suspended in Singapore due to the crisis.

Singapore won early praise for its handling of the pandemic, but a influx of cases from overseas triggered a spike in new infections. Many of those have been in the tightly packed dormitories reserved for foreign workers.

Of the 876 new cases reported on May 10, 860 were among workers in the dormitories.
