Singapore Turf Club

The Singapore Turf Club (STC) was founded in 1842 as the Singapore Sporting Club. It is the oldest existing and only horse racing club in Singapore.The first race was held on 23 February 1843 at Farrer Park when the prize money on offer was only $150. In 1924, the Club changed its name to the Singapore Turf Club in an effort to reflect its role as a horse racing club more accurately. The Club then moved to Bukit Timah in 1933 before relocating to its present location at the Singapore Racecourse at Kranji in 1999. It is now one of the premier racecourses in the world that not only provides world-class quality horse racing while maintaining the highest level of integrity in wagering, but also an efficient, effective and socially responsible organisation. It is also the agent and proprietary club of the Tote Board, which manages and directs its donation of surplus funds for charitable purposes in Singapore. Key features of the Singapore racing calendar include the S$1.35 million Longines Singapore Gold Cup and the $1.15 million Emirates Singapore Derby. Both races attract the best competitive local fields each year as they strive for top honours. Racing is staged at the Singapore Racecourse almost all-year round on Fridays and Sundays. On these days together with Wednesdays and Saturdays, horse races from Australia, France, Hong Kong, Macau, South Africa, South Korea and the UK are also shown “live” at the racecourse and off-course betting centres and outlets which are conveniently located in various parts of Singapore.
