SJM Holdings participated in the “2021 World Environment Day” in support of the Macao Environmental Protection Bureau to boost environmental awareness and to encourage employee engagement.
A series of activities kicked off on 7 June, when all SJM properties switched off their exterior and non-essential interior lights for one hour from 8:30 p.m. Two other summer events, namely “Casual Summer Wear – Let’s Conserve Energy” and “Non-essential Lights off at Lunch”, take place from now through 31 August.
On 7 June, all SJM properties turned off their decorative lights, outdoor LED screens and non-essential interior lights for one hour aiming to raise awareness about global warming and to promote the importance of reducing energy consumption. Hotel room guests were also invited to join the light-off event. SJM employees also responded to the event by turning off non-essential lights and electronic devices at home during the hour.
To help further promote the work of DSPA and encourage employee engagement, SJM supports the “Casual Summer Wear – Let’s Conserve Energy” event by inviting frontline and office employees to wear less formal attire during the hot summer. SJM also aims to reduce the energy consumption of air conditioners in office by setting a temperature no lower than 25°C.
In addition to these two events organised by DSPA, SJM launched its own environmental programme, “Non-essential Lights Off at Lunch”, this summer, encouraging all office staff to switch off non-essential lights and electronic devices during the lunch hour to reduce power consumption.
In line with the Macau SAR Government’s goal to transform Macau into a low-carbon city, SJM remains committed toward maintaining environmental sustainable operations and achieving measurable green objectives amongst its employees through regular education programmes. SJM is also an active participant in annual environmental events such as “Earth Hour”, “Macao Energy Conservation Week” and the “Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition”, through which the company aims to continue spreading the important message of environmental protection to the Macau community.
