SkyCity to reopen flagship Auckland casino on Dec. 3 to vaccinated clients

SkyCity Entertainment said it expects to reopen its flagship property in Auckland on Dec. 3 for vaccinated patrons after New Zealand implements its new Covid Protection Framework.

Under the new protocol, the Auckland region will be designated as being in the Red zone, while settings for the rest of the country have not yet been announced, the operator said.

It adds that most businesses, retail and public facilities, will be able to remain open to vaccinated people, whether they are in the red, orange or green zones.

The company's properties in Hamilton and Queenstown have already reopened, while its Adelaide property in Australia is also open.

In October, CEO Michael Ahearne said that COVID-19 Vaccination Certificates (CVC) will be a requirement for entry to all SkyCity sites across New Zealand.

“As one of the biggest entertainment venues in New Zealand, and a significant employer in New Zealand, we need to take measures to help keep Kiwis safe,” he said. “While we have existing safety controls in place to mitigate the risk of exposure to COVID-19, public health information and research confirm that COVID-19 vaccines will provide the best protection for our staff and customers.
