Solid opening for Studio City; possible VIP area in future, analysts say

Macau’s Studio City delivered a solid opening as the new Hollywood-themed casino unveiled its non-gaming amusements, UBS said, and though not housing any junket business currently could see some VIP operations in the future.

Along with showcasing the premiere of a star-studded short movie, The Audition, and its Batman Dark Flight ride, Studio City unveiled its gaming floor which has 200 mass tables, and about 1200 slots and ETGs.

UBS analyst Robin Farley said despite the lower number of tables, “we do not think the floor feels empty, however the mixture of slots vs. tables does feel distinctively higher.”

He added that there are no junket or direct VIP gaming facilities in the property, which might change when more tables are received, “and there might be some VIP action on the 2nd floor in the future.”
