South Australia gambling law changes in limbo

 
John Rau, attorney general of South Australia, summoned parliamentarians to a meeting after amendments struck out key elements of the state's proposed gambling law changes. The changes removed provisions to reduce the bet limit at slot machines to A$5 from A$10, speed up the introduction of measures to allow gamblers to cap their play and display problem gambling warnings on screen and limiting small venues to having less than 20 machines while allowing larger ones to have up to 60, up from a current 40. The legislators however agreed to restrict ATM withdrawals at gaming venues to A$250 per card per day, to ban gaming in smoking areas of a casino and to forbid slot machines that allow players to plug in earphones to block out noise.
